Farmers Museum Independence Day Celebration
The Farmers’ Museum Independence Day Celebration marks the sounds of 1845.
Schedule
Starting at noon, watch as Michael Henrici delivers the Declaration of Independence on the Bump Tavern Green and take part in the 13 celebratory toasts as our Founding Fathers did, with lemonade provided by the Crossroads Café.
Sit for a traditional tintype portrait outside the Herkimer Kitchen–something you can’t do with your smartphone (throughout the day, weather permitting)).
Traditional 19th-century children’s games will be provided for family play on the Bump Tavern Green.
Museum artisans will demonstrate traditional blacksmithing, letterpress printing, and other trades throughout the day. At the printing office pick up a multicolor Fourth of July card. While there, you can also pick up a copy of the portable lemonade recipe that’s featured in the new Farmers’ Museum cookbook Sweet Treats and Good Eats.
At the Lippitt Farmstead, learn about life on the farm and delight in the baby animals at the Children’s Barnyard. Enjoy traditional 19th–century music performed throughout the day at Bump Tavern. You can even take a horse-drawn wagon ride through the museum grounds!
