First Allies Craft Fair

The First Allies Craft Fair, takes place from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Fort Stanwix National Monument located at 100 N. James Street, Rome, NY.

First Allies Craft Fair, image by Oneida Indian NationThe Oneida Indian Nation, in partnership with Fort Stanwix National Monument and the Rome Historical Society, announces the return of the First Allies Craft Fair at Fort Stanwix in Rome on Saturday, September 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The family-friendly free to attend event will feature Oneida and Haudenosaunee arts, crafts and social dance exhibitions.

Visitors can peruse various authentic, handmade Haudenosaunee items outdoors on the Fort’s lawn leading to the main entrance. One-of-a-kind jewelry, beadwork, wood carvings, textiles, ceramics, and much more will be available for sale by crafters. Corn soup and the popular strawberry drink also will be for sale.

The beauty and complexity of Haudenosaunee social dance will be on full display with three separate social dance presentations at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. With these presentations, visitors will be able to learn more about Oneida traditions and culture.

Fort Stanwix National Monument is located at 100 N. James Street in Rome. Parking is available in the lot across from the Fort on 121 N. James Street. This is the third year the event has been hosted at Fort Stanwix National Monument. The First Allies name is a nod to the Oneida Indian Nation’s rich history as America’s First Allies, which included defending Fort Stanwix from a British siege during the Revolutionary War.
