GLOVERSVILLE: The planning committee for the FJ&G ThoroughFair, which is shaping up to be Fulton County’s premier summer event of 2022, announces five headlining music acts that will perform in various locations throughout the Rail Trail on August 20th, 2022.
The ThoroughFair planning committee is pleased to present a wide-reaching slate of headlining performers bringing bluegrass, Celtic rock, blues, americana, and roots-rock genres to the forefront of Fulton County’s two cities. Headlining the event’s opening main stage at the Jenner Memorial Bandshell is Rusticator, an acoustic Americana eclectic trio from the Capital Region known for covering the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Van Morrison as well as well-crafted original songs. The Insolent Willies, a Mohawk Valley based acoustic roots-rock band and founded by Johnstown’s own Bill Ackerbauer, will join Rusticator in Johnstown performing clever and quirky original music paired with unpredictable covers.
To finish the event, a second setlist of headliners are scheduled to perform at Trail Station Park in Downtown Gloversville. The Canada-based indie band, Durham County Poets, will showcase their broad- stroked original pieces that encompass jazz, rock, and most notably, blues, in which their efforts in the latter received JUNO, Maple Blues, and Canadian Folk Music Awards nominations.
Another group, The North and South Dakotas, will join The Durham County Poets on Trail Station Park’s mainstage. The North and South Dakotas strings bluegrass and folk tunes with their ever-rotating cast of string players from the Upstate NY region performing intimate genre-sweeping originals.
Additional performers will set up various locations throughout the rail trail and will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.
”We knew pretty early on that this event will really showcase the cultural, recreational, social opportunities shared by both cities,” explains planning committee co-chair James Hannahs. “Thanks to Saratoga Arts’ generous allocation, we are able to take this event a step further and bring high-quality, accredited regional talent to really drive the uniqueness of the ThoroughFair.”
The FJ&G ThoroughFair is an all-day event meant to bring awareness to the functionality of the FJ&G Rail Trail as a connecting agent between Downtown Johnstown and Downtown Gloversville while driving visitation. The purpose of the event is to strengthen community relationships between Johnstown and Gloversville by utilizing the FJ&G Rail Trail as a stage for activities that embody 4 shared community values: Recreation, History, Art, and Environment.
In addition to programming options, there are many vendor and sponsorship opportunities for the event, ranging from $150-$3000. The FJ&G ThroughFair will be successful with the generosity of sponsorships, as an incredible amount of private and public collaboration make the event possible. The funds will support the logistics, promotion, safety, and smooth workings of the event.
