The e vent will include living history demonstrations\, battle reenactments\, Ma nsion Tours and a taste of what life was like in the Mohawk Valley during the American Revolution.\nLive Demonstrations\nDemonstrations on Saturday take place between 9:30 am and 4:00 p.m.\, and on Sunday between 9:30am an d 4:00 p.m. and will include topics such as 18th century trade and transpo rtation\, blacksmithing\, hygiene\, colonial toys and games\, laundry\, an d the daily life and accoutrements of the American soldier during the Revo lution.\n\nOn Saturday\, at 10:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m.\, and Sunday at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. our living historians will provide large scale tactical demonstrations depicting the “Raid on Herkimer Flatts”\, and “The A mbush”\, a recreation of the Battle of Oriskany\, in which General Herki mer was mortally wounded. These demonstrations will offer visitors the abi lity to experience the sight and sounds of the American Revolution as it p layed out in the Mohawk Valley. Programming will include various living hi story activities and demonstrations throughout each day. In addition\, the re will be a food truck and historic vendors on site throughout the weeken d event.\nAbout Herkimer Home\nHerkimer Home State Historic Site is the Ge orgian-style mansion that was the home to courageous Revolutionary War her o\, General Nicholas Herkimer. He completed construction of his mansion ab out 1764 and he assured his place in history in 1777 at the Battle of Oris kany. In August 1777\, while the British were attacking Fort Stanwix\, Bri gadier General Nicholas Herkimer assembled 800 militiamen\, supported by 6 0 allied Oneida warriors\, and marched to aid against the siege. Upon hear ing of Herkimer’s advance\, British and Loyalist troops under Sir John J ohnson and Col. John Butler\, and Indian forces led by Mohawk Joseph Brant \, set a trap in a boggy ravine west of Oriskany Creek. Although seriously wounded in the leg\, Herkimer kept command during the fierce combat. Afte r the battle\, Herkimer was carried home where he died 10 days later.\n\nV isitors to Herkimer Home today will marvel at the grandness of this Georgi an-style mansion that once stood on the colonial frontier. The unspoiled l andscape\, including the Herkimer family burial ground\, is remarkably unc hanged from that of the 18th century. The site is open daily from sunrise until sunset. The Visitor Center is open and house tours are available Wed nesday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm\, and on Monday holidays fr om 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
