We love the events we receive from all across the Mohawk Valley and this Memorial Day Weekend we’re so happy to highlight parades and ceremonies, as well as The Glove’s concert featuring Alex Torres and his Latin Orchestra along with the Caroga Arts Collective concert, The Man in Black: A Tribute to Johnny Cash.

“This event features the 12-piece orchestra based in Amsterdam NY led by bassist Alex Torres. The orchestra performs their unique, original blend of Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, Cha-cha, Bomba, Plena and Latin Jazz.“

Formed October 1980 in Amsterdam, NY, this 12 piece orchestra is led by the Bronx-born bassist Alex Torres. They have been presented by hundreds of festivals, performing arts centers and events annually to perform their original blend of Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, Cha-cha, Bomba, Plena and Latin Jazz.
The Man in Black: A Tribute to Johnny Cash
The Man in Black: A Tribute to Johnny Cash Takes place at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday May 25, 2024 at Sherman’s Park located at 114 East Shore Road West, Caroga Lake, Fulton County.
Get ready to kick off the summer with an unforgettable Memorial Day weekend concert at Sherman’s Park featuring The Man in Black: A Tribute to Johnny Cash
With his striking resemblance, spot-on mannerisms, and baritone voice, Shawn Barker embodies the character and spirit of Johnny Cash. Shawn Barker’s Tribute to Johnny Cash is an accurate and energetic recreation of an American music icon. The show brings a legend back to life onstage for the fans of today and the next generation.
Memorial Day Parades and Observances
BOONVILLE
There will be three Memorial Day ceremonies in Boonville beginning at 9 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Forest, Route 294. The second service will be at the Ava Cemetery and the third service will get start at 11 a.m. at the Boonville Cemetery.
HOLLAND PATENT
The Holland Patent American Legion Post 161 hosts its annual parade and services. Lt. Col. Michael Kidd, 224th Air Defense Group, will be the guest speaker. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m., at the middle school. There will be a wreath laying at the War Memorial. There will also be a service with refreshments.
LOWVILLE
The Village of Lowville Memorial Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. at the Lowville American Legion. A wreath is to be laid at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.
There will be light refreshments available following the parade.
NEW HARTFORD
The New Hartford parade begins 7 p.m. at the New Hartford Shopping Center. The New Hartford Fire Department is to host a memorial service and open house after the parade.
ORISKANY
There will be services and a wreath laying ceremony beginning at 8 a.m. at the Post on Route 69 along with visiting village monuments.
REMSEN
There will be a Memorial Day Service at 9 a.m. at the Memorial Park in Forestport.
ROME
The Rome Memorial Day ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park located at 200 N. James St.
UTICA
The annual Memorial Day parade begins at 10 a.m. in front of St. Elizabeth Medical Center, 2209 Genesee St. before heading on Genesee Street with the parade ending at the Parkway Recreation Center.
VERNON/VERNON CENTER
The Vernon Center parade begins at 9 a.m. in front of the Vernon Center Volunteer Fire Department with the route ending Vernon Center Cemetery on College Hill Road, where ceremonies will take place.
The Vernon parade begins in front of the American Legion Post on Route 5 at 11 a.m. with an opening ceremony. The parade route continues to the Vernon Village Cemetery on Cooper Street with ceremonies to follow.
WHITESBORO
The parade in Whitesboro starts at 9:30 a.m. (corner of Watkins and Main streets) with a brief memorial ceremony at the village green.
