Community members, neighbors and friends are invited to an Autumn Equinox Celebration on Thursday September 21 starting at 4 pm.

The celebration is a collaboration between the Old Forge Library and Weaving Home. Participants are invited to start the celebration at the library with a Painted Feather Craft. The celebration will then move to a simple ceremony of gratitude for the autumn.

An Equinox happens every six months, once in March and again in September, an equinox splits Earth’s Day almost in half, giving us about 12 hours of daylight and 12 of night. The September 23 Equinox marks the start of fall in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere. The fall equinox has been a day of celebration for cultures since Neolithic or Paleolithic times.

In the current culture here in the West Central Adirondacks it seems like a moment to stop and take a breath after the busy summer, and enjoy nature’s autumn bounty and color.

All library events are free and open to all. Call 315-369-6008 to register. Registration is appreciated but walk-ins are also welcome. The main thing is to join us.
