The Dolgeville Violet Festival happens every year on the second Friday, Saturday and Sunday of June, and this year, June 7, 8 and 9!
Enjoy events at the Violet Festival like the annual parade, 5k Race and Kids’ Fun Run, lots of vendors, along with art and flower shows.
As the Dolgeville Violet Festival Committee describes it,
“The Dolgeville Violet Festival is not just a one-time event during the summer, but a year-round effort by the residents of Dolgeville. The Violet Festival preserves the historical aspects of the Village of Dolgeville through the use of innovative, artistic, and educational displays throughout the year. There is an emphasis on the communities’ rich horticultural history, which culminates with the annual Dolgeville Violet Festival…”
The Festival draws more than 75 vendors, 80 organizations that participate in the parade, and over 10,000 people to the Village during the three-day event.
Festival Committee meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at the Dolgeville Village Hall. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to attend.
Lyndon Lyon and Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses
Lyndon Lyon, who lived in Dolgeville until his death in 1999, developed about 800 hybrid varieties of African violet and helped popularize its use as a houseplant. Lyon’s greenhouse in Dolgeville still operates and is known for violets and orchids, and Dolgeville’s annual Violet Festival commemorates him. Wikipedia
