May kicks off with a busy weekend on May 3 -5 in Downtown Gloversville.

Events include the opening of Nibbles & Bites food truck at 235 N. Main St., on May 3 (today) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., next to Beau Monde Progressive Hair Studio & Day Spa Ltd. Owned by Heather Lyn, the truck will be at that location on Fridays and is also available for private parties. 44 Lakes Customized Gifts & Décor, 15 N. Main St., will host a “Patriotic Ribbon Flag” making class on May 3 at 5 to 7 p.m.and May 4 from 11 to 1 p.m. Call (518) 775-8634 to reserve a spot. Micropolis Cooperative Gallery, located inside Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market, 30 N. Main St., is hosting a “Meet the Artist Reception” on May 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. with featured guest artist Lynn Trudeau, a watercolor painter. At 7 p.m., The Glove Theater, 42 N. Main St., hosts Capital Region band “The Insolent Willies.” Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at ticketstripe.com/518willies.

So much more going on in Gloversville!

On May 4, join volunteers at 10 a.m. for “I Love My Gloversville Park Day” and the cleaning of Castiglione Memorial Park on North Main Street to ready it for the upcoming Gloversville Food Truck Fridays season. Take time to also check out Wishes N Dreams Past N Present, a new boutique located at 10 S. Main St. A grand opening will be held on Saturday, May the 4th with a store wide 10% off sale on total purchases store wide. Store hours are 10 am to 4 pm Tuesdays through Saturdays. At 7 p.m. on May 4, the Dorn Space, 99 N. Main St., will host Keanen Stark and Orion Kribs in concert. Admission is $10 (cash/door only). Tickets may be reserved by emailing dornspace@gmail.com (doors open at 6:15 pm). It’s Turtle Month and The Glove Theatre, 42 N. Main St., and Dancing Turtle Rescue and Education Program Inc., are celebration with a free program on May 5 at 2 p.m. with Debbie Philp and her turtle ambassadors.

Looking ahead

Looking ahead to the weekend of May 17-19, it will be another busy time for Downtown Gloversville. It starts with the Fulton County Museum’s Community BBQ and Ice Cream Social Fundraiser, located at 237 Kingsboro Ave., on May 17 at 5 p.m. Stump City Brewing will be on-site selling locally brewed farm-fresh beer. Enjoy tunes from Sheaman and Marty, then take a tour of the museum and check out this year’s special exhibit, “Road to Revolution!” Fees are $18 for the chicken dinner and make-your-own-sundae, $15 for chicken dinner only, and $5 for make-your-own-sundae only. Tickets available now online or by mailing a check to Fulton County Historical Society at 237 Kingsboro Ave. Gloversville, NY 12078. concert at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:45 p.m. Also on May 17, Dorn Space, located at 99 N. Main St., will host Lucas Garrett and Collette McComb in concert at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:45 p.m.

City-wide Garage Sale

The city-wide garage sale will be held on May 18 and 19. Also on May 18, 44 Lakes Customed Gifts & Décor, 15 N. Main St., is hosting a Sidewalk Chalk Contest. To sign up, please message the store through its Facebook page. The ran date is May 25. Contestants are split up into age groups. In the ages 12 to adult category, top two winners will split all the money donated and for the ages 11 and under category, the two winners will each win a gift bag. Great Rentals, 59 N. Main St., will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free shirts, flashlights and koozies will be available, as well as a raffle and local dirt track driver Stephen Gray will be on site from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Glove Theatre will host Floydian Trip, New England’s premier Pink Floyd Experience, at 7 p.m. on May 18. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.ticketstripe.com/floydiantrip.

Gloversville Business Break on May 29

Mark your calendars for the next Gloversville Business Break as it is being held on May 29 at The Glove Theatre from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Immediately following the professional activity, the theater will show the movie “Matilida: The Musical,” which is free thanks to underwriting by the Perrott, Peck, and Blackmon families. While this event is geared towards Downtown Gloversville businesses and organizations, any business is welcome to attend and network. “The idea is to have a monthly coffee break for businesspeople to meet other members of the business community, network, and visit a business or venue that they may not have been in yet.

As we continue to get closer to summer, more activities are happening in Downtown Gloversville so come join the fun!
