The Glove Theatre Presents Workshop Production of New Musical, Picture of David, by Alyssa Rizzo

Friday, May 10th and Saturday, May 11th at 7.00pm and Sunday, May 12th, as 2.00pm.

GLOVERSVILLE, NEW YORK — The Glove Theatre is presenting a workshop production of Picture of David, a new musical by St. John’s parish organist, Alyssa Rizzo. This production marks the first new musical which will be developed at The Glove Theatre.

Rizzo began writing Picture of David, a modern-day adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s A Picture of Dorian Gray, during lockdown, and has been working steadily on it for several years. Her pastiche score will be performed live by a quartet of musicians, with special musical guest, violinist Stephanie Price-Wong. The piece is directed by Glove Theatre General Manager and Trust Your Gut Productions Creative Director, Michael Maricondi. Its cast will include Raphael J. Cohen as David, Lillian Nevins, Dexter Reilly, Ashley Olmstead, Nikkita Laurayne, Robin Sear, and Allyson Kaczmarek. This developmental production will be staged and presented script in-hand for audience feedback as part of The Glove’s New Work Series.

“…David will be a staged workshop reading,” adds director, Maricondi, “which is something that is done a lot in New York City and beyond to help refine the piece, test it in front of an audience, and get audiences interested in following its journey. There will be movement, a live band, suggestions of a set…but it’s really a chance for the piece to speak for itself and for audiences to get in on the ground floor of a New Work’s development. That’s also why we decided to present this production script-in-hand, so that the actors can focus on telling the story such as it is at this point in the piece’s development while we continue editing and refining during rehearsals.”

The Glove Theatre, in conjunction with Trust Your Gut Productions, hopes that …David will help attract other playwrights, composers, lyricists, and creators to submit their New Works for development at The Glove, and are currently planning a New One Act Play Festival with the Gloversville Public Library. These efforts to work with creators to hone their New Works fit perfectly with The Glove’s mission to establish an accessible platform of expression for the arts that engages entertains, and educated the regional community to foster talent and economic development opportunities for the Southern Adirondack and Mohawk Valley regions.

Three performances scheduled for May 10-12

Picture of David will hold three performances: Friday, May 10th and Saturday, May 11th at 7.00pm and Sunday, May 12th, as 2.00pm. Adult beverages, including Stump City brews, will be on sale to patrons 21 and over with valid I.D. Tickets are set at $10.
