The Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd., will host Galen Abdur-Razzaq, a national flutist and lecturer on Tuesday, January 16 at 5:00 p.m. with a live online “Jazz and the Civil Rights Movement” performance on a Zoom platform. Admission is free and open to the public.

.Galen is an extraordinary flutist with an extensive performance career and a riveting speaker with an abundance of knowledge on the history of jazz and the Civil Rights Movement. He offers an engaging path to music appreciation through his musical performances and lectures. His goal is to provide the audience with an understanding and appreciation of jazz and its historical significance within American heritage. Jazz was an instrument of expression during difficult periods in American history and an important pathway to a greater appreciation of all music.

Abdur-Razzaq studied at Berklee College of Music and holds a master’s degree in education and performing arts from Rutgers University. He has been a speaker on the topic of jazz and performed at colleges and universities for more than 30 years as well as taken roles as a composer, arranger and recording artist.
