Dolgeville is located in both Herkimer and Fulton counties. Located in the lands of the Haudenosaunee, the area was first settled by Europeans in 1794 when Samuel Low constructed two mills–a saw mill and a grist mill.
Located along the banks of the East Canada Creek, the village was first named Green’s Bridge after a settler named green built a bridge over the creek. It was renamed to Brockett’s Bridge in 1826 and would petition the government to be renamed to Dolgeville after Alfred Dolge in 1881. The village was incorporated in 1891.
