Village of Herkimer Brownfield Opportunity Area Plan Final Workshop

The Village of Herkimer is working towards finalizing its Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Plan. A draft plan was developed and prepared for review. The public is invited to provide feedback on the plan at an upcoming public workshop on August 21st. The workshop will be from 6:00pm to 7:30 pm at 200 North Main Street. The project team hopes you’ll join them for an evening of celebration and reflection on the plan! More information about the project can be found at www.herkimerboa.com.
The Village of Herkimer is undertaking significant planning and investment in the downtown commercial core through both a Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) and this BOA plan.
In 2024, the Village was selected as a DRI Round 7 community and awarded a $10 million grant to enhance downtown vibrancy through strategic investments and catalytic projects. The final projects selected for the $10 million DRIfunding were recently announced and will soon begin implementation. The Village is now building on this investment to look at longer term opportunities to revitalize underutilized sites through the Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Plan. The BOA Plan will work to further attract investment and funding opportunities to Herkimer.
Over the past year, the BOA team has engaged with middle, high, and college students, local businesses and property owners, local tourism and accommodation operators, residents, and others to inform this long-term planning strategy. Now, based on public input and the work done in completing the DRI, a draft was developed outlining the plan. The plan now turns to the public again for review and feedback before it is finalized. Join us August 21st at 200 North Main from 6-7:30pm. The draft plan will be available for review at the project website, and participants will be invited to review the components of the plan and provide their feedback.
The plan was led throughout the process by a project team including the Herkimer County IDA, Village staff, a BOA committee, and a consultant team led by LaBella Associates.
