Montgomery County Kayak-a-Thon

Hundreds of paddlers will take to the Mohawk River for Montgomery County’s Kayak-a-Thon, celebrating the 200^th anniversary of the Erie Canal. With more than 240 kayakers registered from across New York and beyond, this year’s event has surpassed expectations. Following the paddle, the community is invited to a free Bicentennial Bash at Amsterdam’s Riverlink Park, featuring live music, food truck, local craft beverages, family fun and fireworks.

WHEN: SATURDAY AUGUST 23, 2025

• 7AM: Kayak-a-Thon check-in begins, Fonda Park (20–40 Park Street, Fonda, NY)
• 9:30AM (Approximately): Launch of 240+ kayakers into the Mohawk River
• 11:30 to 12:30PM (Approximately): Kayakers pass through Lock 12 in Tribes Hill (Cheer them on) 

3 to 9PM Bicentennial Bash at Riverlink Park Amsterdam

• 5PM: Waterski Show
• 6:15PM: 200th Celebration Cake Cutting
• 7PM: Gridley Paige’s AM Gold Yacht Party
• 9PM: Fireworks
