Divine Mercy Sunday
Holy Family Parish in Little Falls will host a local celebration for Divine Mercy Sunday at their church on April 12th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Their church is located near the parish office, whose address is 763 East Main Street.
Divine Mercy Sunday
Divine Mercy Sunday, also known as The Feast of the Divine Mercy, is a special tradition that was officially designed by Pope John Paul II in 2000 when he canonized St.Maria Faustina Kowalska. It is always celebrated on the second Sunday of Easter. Catholics traditionally believe that Jesus Christ appeared to St. Faustina on 14 different occasions from 1931-1938, which she recounted in her widely published diary. Honoring this feast day is based on what Jesus revealed to her, serving as specific instructions for the faithful in order to help grow closer to Him and to receive His mercy. The celebration includes going to Confession– either on the feast day or soon before it, receiving Holy Communion on the feast day, adoring the Blessed Sacrament (Holy Eucharist), and reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet while using a rosary– as Jesus instructed everyone through St. Faustina. In preparation of Divine Mercy Sunday, worshippers are encouraged to pray the chaplet as a novena, which means nine straight days leading into the celebration, beginning on Good Friday, April 3rd.
All are invited to join Holy Family Parish as they pray and honor this beautiful, sacred tradition at their church on April 12th.
The schedule for Divine Mercy Sunday is as follows:
- 2:00 p.m. – Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Confessions begin.
- 2:15 – 2:45 – Meditations from The Diary of St. Maria Faustina (Adoration and Confessions continue.)
- 3:00 – 4:00 – Reciting of The Chaplet of the Divine Mercy, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, veneration of the first class relic of St. Faustina, and veneration of the Divine Mercy image (a reprint of the original painting of Jesus as St. Faustina described Him)
Free resources will also be available at the church. Instructions on how to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet are already on display at the church’s entrances.
