CPR & Basic Life Saving Class at the Old Forge Library
Knowing what to do in the first few minutes of an emergency can make a real difference, particularly in a remote Adirondack community where professional medical help may be farther away. When more people know CPR, how to use an AED, and basic first aid, the community has more people who can act while help is on the way.
Certified instructor Nia Tormey will lead a free CPR, First Aid, and Certification Class at the Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd., on Saturday, October 17, from 10 am to 2 pm. The class will cover CPR, AED use, and basic lifesaving skills, along with opioid education and a brief Narcan training.
Participants will leave with practical skills that can be used at home, at work, outdoors, or anywhere an emergency occurs. CPR training can increase the chance of survival following cardiac arrest, while first aid and emergency response skills help people respond confidently to injuries and other urgent situations. CPR certification may also be required for certain jobs.
The class is limited to eight participants. Another CPR, First Aid, and Certification Class with Nia Tormey is scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2027, also from 10 am to 2 pm.
Library programs are free and open to all. Pre-registration is required. To register for the October 17 class, contact the Old Forge Library at 315-369-6008 or oldforge@midyork.org. If the class is full, library staff will add names to a waiting list for a future class or in case of cancellations.
