Amazon Breaks Ground on New Distribution Facility in Montgomery County

TOWN OF FLORIDA– Montgomery County officials gathered Thursday to observe initial site activity and ongoing preparation work as Amazon begins construction on a new facility in the Town of Florida. The project represents a significant private investment and reinforces the county’s growing role as a logistics and commerce hub in upstate New York.

The Amazon facility is expected to bring hundreds of full-time and part-time jobs to the area, signaling continued economic momentum in Montgomery County. Once complete, the site will serve as a key logistics node supporting both regional and national operations.

“This project represents a major step forward for Montgomery County,” County Executive Pete Vroman said. “We have worked hard to position this region as a place where national companies like Amazon can confidently invest and grow. The benefits of this facility will be felt across our communities, from job creation and economic growth to the message it sends about what is possible here. Montgomery County is on the move, and this groundbreaking reflects the momentum we are building for the future.”

Amazon has already begun mobilizing on-site. In addition to construction activity, the project is expected to create long-term employment opportunities in operations, warehousing and delivery logistics. It is one of the largest private investments in the county’s recent history.

“This is an exciting milestone, not just for the Town of Florida but for all of Montgomery County,” Legislative Chair Michael Pepe said. “The economic ripple effects of this project will be felt for years to come. From jobs to infrastructure improvements, this is a win for our residents and business community. It shows what our region can attract when we work with intention and focus.”

Local leaders emphasized the importance of responsible planning and collaboration in advancing the project.

“We are proud to welcome this new facility to the Town of Florida,” Town Supervisor Eric Mead said. “This development is the result of careful planning, strong communication and a shared commitment to the future of our community. It is another example of how Florida continues to grow while staying true to its roots.”

With continued growth in logistics and e-commerce nationwide, Montgomery County’s strategic location along major interstate routes and proximity to key markets has positioned it as an attractive destination for expanding companies.

Legislator Michele Pawlik, chair of the county Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee, said the project aligns with broader county goals.

“This project speaks to the direction we are headed as a county — forward,” Pawlik said. “It supports our efforts to create opportunity, increase workforce participation and ensure Montgomery County is a place where families can live and work with confidence in the future.”

Officials said the new facility is expected to strengthen the county’s employment base, expand the commercial tax roll and further enhance the region’s reputation as a place where business and community grow together.
