Micropolis Cooperative Art Gallery “Meet the Artists Reception”
Micropolis Cooperative Art Gallery will hold a “Meet the Artists Reception” on Friday, September 11 from 4:00-6:00pm.
Dick Foster, painter and Mayfield resident, will be the featured artist.
Dick has painted primarily in New York’s beautiful Catskill and Adirondack Mountains as well as Florida’s southwest coast. He has also worked in Italy, France and Greece. He holds a B.A. from SUNY Binghamton University and an M.A. from the University at Albany. In recent years he has studied with Joan Ross at the Warwick Art League, Warwick, NY, Vern Mauk at the Arts Center at Blue Mountain Lake, NY, and Tony Couch at Woodstock, VT.
Dick spent 31 years teaching high school English and coaching soccer and tennis. Upon retiring, he spent a year at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY as a college supervisor overseeing the training of seniors in student teaching placements. Rewarding as this work was, he left it to devote more time to painting. As a young boy he knew he had an ability in art, but other activities kept him from devoting time to painting.
Winner of several competitive awards, he works primarily in watercolor and oil, capturing the interplay of light and shadow on form in the outdoors. He seeks out settings which still display traits that have endured through the years, preserving fragments of our world’s beauty on paper and canvas. His work, which sometimes even takes the form of historical re-creation, is said to evoke the past in the present and nature’s permanence.
Dick feels honored to have been instrumental in the establishment of “the art group” in Mayfield which, after several years, still meets on Wednesday mornings at the Mayfield Presbyterian Church. The group welcomes new participants at any level in any medium.
In addition to the artwork of the guest artist, the gallery is filled with paintings, drawings, pastels, photographs, fiber art, mixed media, glass, digital art, jewelry, pottery, woodland assemblages, baskets, turned items of exotic wood and fine art cards by the members of Micropolis Cooperative, Inc. The reception is free and open to the public. The show runs through October.
Micropolis, located inside Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market at 30 N. Main St., Gloversville, is open Monday-Friday / 9am-6pm and Saturdays from 9am until 2pm.
