Montgomery County Public Health Department Hosts Free 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament for Families

Amsterdam, NY — The Montgomery County Public Health Department is excited to announce a free community event — a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament taking place on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Lynch Middle School basketball courts in Amsterdam, NY. The event is open to all ages and begins at 8:00 a.m.

With the theme “Kids Run Better Unleaded,” the event aims to raise awareness about the dangers of lead exposure in children while offering families a fun and engaging way to learn more about the many services provided by the Health Department.

This no-cost tournament invites community members to enjoy a high-energy day of basketball, health education, and family-friendly activities. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly with public health staff and learn about programs such as:

  • Lead Poisoning Prevention
  • Immunizations for Children and Adults
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Veteran’s Peer Support Services
  • Rabies Awareness and Pet Safety
  • Chronic Disease Prevention and Nutrition Support
  • And much more!

“This event is a great way to connect with our community in a positive and healthy environment,” said Sara Boerenko, Health Director. “By bringing families together around sports and wellness, we’re also offering the chance to learn how to keep kids safe and healthy — starting with removing lead hazards and continuing with the many health services available right here in Montgomery County.”

In addition to the tournament, there will be giveaways, educational booths, interactive games, and health resources available throughout the day. Whether you’re playing on a team, cheering from the sidelines, or stopping by for a conversation, there’s something for everyone.

All ages are welcome, and no registration is required to attend as a spectator. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to support local youth, promote wellness, and get involved with your county’s health initiatives.
