Montgomery County to Participate in Statewide STOP-DWI JULY 4th

“High Visibility Engagement Campaign”

STOP-DWI Impaired Driving High Visibility Engagement Campaign runs July 3 – July 7, 2024

Montgomery County Executive Robert A. Purtell announced today that Montgomery County police agencies and STOP-DWI Coordinators will participate in special efforts to bring awareness to the dangers of impaired driving.

The statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign will start on July 3, 2024 and will end on July 7, 2024. The Fourth of July extended weekend is historically a deadly period for impaired driving. This year the 4th of July falls on a Thursday which makes for a long weekend, so we expect heavy traveling to begin on Wednesday July 3, 2024

Americans love to celebrate the Fourth of July with family, friends, food, and fireworks, but all too often the festivities turn tragic on the nation’s roads. The fact is this iconic American holiday is also one of the deadliest holidays of the year due to impaired-driving crashes.

“Please don’t drink and drive, Don’t let anyone get behind the wheel if that person has been drinking. If you’re hosting a gathering, make sure everyone has a sober ride home. Call 911 if you see a drunk driver. Let’s make this a safe July 4th for all,”  said Montgomery County Sheriff Jeffery T. Smith.

“As you prepare for July 4th with family and friends, make sure you have a plan to get to your destination safely,” said STOP-DWI Coordinator Jeff Kaczor. “Impaired driving is a reckless, costly, all-too-often deadly decision that puts all those sharing the road in danger. I urge all drivers and passengers to be smart and have a plan.” Stay safe. Remember your poor decisions affects everyone!”

The STOP-DWI July 4th High Visibility Engagement Campaign is one of many statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. The Statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign also targets Memorial Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Holiday Season, Super Bowl weekend and St. Patrick’s Day.
