Take a Self-Guided Walk During NYS Path Through History Weekend

GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. – Downtown Gloversville will participate in the upcoming New York State Path Through History Weekend, taking place October 11 and 12, by inviting residents and visitors alike to explore the city’s rich past through a self-guided walking tour.

Tour highlights many of Gloversville’s historic sites

The tour highlights many of Gloversville’s most significant historic sites and stories, offering participants a glimpse into the city’s cultural, architectural, and industrial heritage. Along the way, visitors can learn about Gloversville’s ties to two U.S. Presidents — Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt, as well as Samuel Goldwyn, the famed Hollywood studio head and the “G” in MGM Studios, who once had business interests in the city.

“Gloversville is filled with history, and visitors can learn about its connection to two presidents, a Hollywood movie studio head, and how the Schine Memorial Hall was once an opera house,” said Jennifer Donovan, Gloversville Downtown Development Specialist at the Fulton County Center for Regional Growth (CRG). “The city has historic markers at many of these sites, and the self-guided tour is a great way for people to experience downtown at their own pace.”

Printed copies of the walking tour map will be available throughout the week at several downtown locations, including CRG at 34 W. Fulton St., the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce at 2 N. Main St., and the Gloversville Public Library at 58 E. Fulton St. A digital PDF version of the map can also be downloaded anytime at www.downtowngloversville.org/history.
