Author Talk: Brothers in Spirit with Norm Dann

UTICA, NY — Join us at the Oneida County History Center for an author talk with Norm Dann, founder of the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum. He will discuss his new book, “Brothers in Spirit,” on Wednesday, June 3, at 5:30 p.m.

Dann will share the story of the close friendship and political partnership between Gerrit Smith and Frederick Douglass, two important American abolitionists. Dann explains how their relationship, which began in the late 1840s with mutual respect, grew into a strong bond that helped shape the anti-slavery and civil rights movements.

Norm Dann is a professor emeritus at Morrisville State College and lives in Peterboro. He serves as the head docent at the Gerrit Smith Estate, helped found the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, and is the treasurer of the Peterboro Area Museum. He has written ten books about Peterboro, including biographies of the Smith family. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
