Downtown Gloversville “Paints the Town Purple” for Alzheimer’s Awareness June 1-6
GLOVERSVILLE, NY — From June 1st through June 6th, the streets of Downtown Gloversville will undergo a vibrant transformation as the community unites to “Paint Downtown Gloversville Purple.” Organized in partnership with the Fulton County Center for Regional Growth (CRG) and the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce, this week-long initiative aims to raise critical funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease while showcasing a deeply supportive local community.
The campaign invites local businesses to “dress up” the city in purple. Throughout the first week of June, visitors to downtown can expect stunning purple window displays, unique purple retail specials, and custom, purple-themed food and drink creations. The initiative will culminate on Saturday, June 6, during the 11th Annual Southern Adirondack Wine & Food Festival that is held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., sponsored by the Gloversville Recreation Commission. Festival attendees are highly encouraged to wear purple to show solidarity. The Northeastern New York Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will also host an interactive table at the festival, providing a space where community members can ask questions, find educational materials, and access resources.
“Our downtown has always been a place where community spirit thrives, but ‘Paint Downtown Purple’ takes that to a whole new level,” said Jennifer Donovan, Gloversville Downtown Development Specialist at CRG. “By uniting our incredible small local businesses, artists, and residents, we aren’t just creating a beautiful visual display, we are sending a powerful message of hope and support to the millions of families navigating the realities of Alzheimer’s disease. I am incredibly proud to see Gloversville step up for such a vital cause.”
Nicole Walrath-VanAlstyne, Interim Executive Director & Workforce Development, at the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce, said, “As your community champion, we’re proud to stand alongside you in support of a cause that touches so many lives. Alzheimer’s impacts our families, friends, and neighbors. For many in our region, this fight is deeply personal. This initiative is a chance for all of us to come together, raise awareness, and show those affected that they are not alone. Whether you participate through decorations, donations, or simply helping spread the word, your support makes a meaningful difference. We look forward to connecting with you, hearing your stories, and working together to bring hope to our community. Let’s come together and Paint the Town Purple!”
Alzheimer’s disease continues to impact millions of families and caregivers globally and locally. Supporting the Alzheimer’s Association means backing a multifaceted approach to ending dementia. The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research, directly driving the science behind new treatments, early detection methods, and ultimately, a cure. They provide 24/7 care and guidance through their free helpline, support groups, and educational resources, offering a lifeline to families navigating the daily challenges of the disease.
