A major transformation is taking shape on Church Street as two neighboring Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) projects host open houses on Tuesday, June 16.

The day’s festivities will showcase the revitalization of the neighborhood, anchored by simultaneous events at Glove City Lofts (52 Church St.) and the Senior Citizens Service Center of Gloversville and Fulton County (53 Church St.).

The Senior Center’s opening marks the completion of an extensive interior and exterior modernization funded through a collaborative blend of Community Block Development Grant (CDBG), Dormitory Authority of New York (DASNY), and Gloversville Revitalization and Improvement Program (GRIP) grants. As the second GRIP-backed project to cross the finish line downtown, the Senior Center’s debut directly mirrors the vibrant, creative energy unfolding right across the street at the newly constructed Lofts. The GRIP fund was created through the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) program.

“Together, these projects showcase the dramatic momentum along the corridor connecting the FJ&G Rail Trail to Main Street,” said Jennifer Donovan, Gloversville Downtown Development Specialist at the Fulton County Center for Regional Growth (CRG). Trail Station Park, located along the FJ&G Rail Trail, received an expansion with a new splash pad and building through grants from the DRI and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Across Frontage Road are Glove City Lofts and the Senior Center. Heading north on Church Street past these projects, visitors coming off the Rail Trail will see the new St. Thomas Square created through the DRI as they head to Main Street.

“The corridor from the FJ&G Rail Trail to Main Street is being transformed thanks to the DRI,” said Donovan. “Between the expansion of Trail Station Park, the development of Glove City Lofts directly across from the Senior Center, and the nearby St. Thomas Square project, we are seeing a revitalization of this neighborhood.”

The day will kick off at the newly developed Glove City Lofts, located at 52 Church St. An open house will be hosted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering community members, local creators, and prospective tenants an opportunity to tour the brand-new, modern layouts designed to help residents create and thrive. Staff will be available to assist interested applicants with securing their unit.

The Senior Citizens Service Center of Gloversville and Fulton County will kick off its festivities with a ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m. After the formal presentation, tours and refreshments will be available until 4 p.m.
