Celebrate Spring in Downtown Gloversville the Weekend of May 17-19

Citywide Garage Sales, Sidewalk Chalk Contest, Concert at Glove Theatre and More!

GLOVERSVILLE, NY – The Gloversville Downtown Development Specialist (GDDS) at Fulton County Center for Regional Growth (CRG) announces a full slate of activities to Celebrate Spring in Downtown Gloversville scheduled for May 17 to 19.

“Spring is in full bloom and so are the activities in and around Downtown Gloversville,” said Jennifer Donovan, GDDS. “There is something for everyone so come for the weekend and celebrate the good weather with our shops, organizations, and events.”

Everything starts on May 17!

Activities begin on Friday, May 17, with the Fulton County Museum’s Community BBQ and Ice Cream Social Fundraiser at 5 p.m. at 237 Kingsboro Ave. Stump City Brewing will be on-site selling locally brewed farm-fresh beer. Enjoy tunes fromSheaman and Marty, then take a tour of the museum and check out this year’s special exhibit, “Road to Revolution!” Fees are $18 for the chicken dinner and make-your-own-sundae, $15 for chicken dinner only, and $5 for make-your-own-sundae only. Also on May 17, Dorn Space, located at 99 N. Main St., will host Lucas Garrett and Collette McComb in concert at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:45 p.m., Lucas Garrett, playing professionally for 10 years, incorporates his idiosyncratic vocal stylings with an unusual blend of progressive rock, folk, and new wave. Collette McComb has toured the northeast in venues such as Proctors Theater in Troy, Turning Stone Casino, The Egg in Albany, EMPAC Theater at RPI and at New Year’s Eve at Maison du Jazz in Montreal. She is also the owner and director of the CM School of Fine Arts. Admission is $10 (cash/door only). Tickets may be reserved by emailing dornspace@gmail.com.

Gloversville Citywide Garage Sale May 18-19

The Gloversville Citywide Garage Sale will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19. Those having sales during the weekend are encouraged to email cityclerk@cityofgloversville.com to have their addresses posted on May 17 with a promotion of the event.

Sidewalk Chalk Contest on Saturday, May 18

The owners of 44 Lakes Customed Gifts & Décor, located at 15 N. Main St., are excited to announce they are hosting a new free community event on May 18.

Kim Walter and Denise Dickson are organizing a Sidewalk Chalk Contest at 11 a.m.Participants are encouraged to sign up by messaging the store through its Facebook page or by calling the store at (518) 775-8634. The rain date is May 25th.

“We are excited to be a part of the Downtown Gloversville community, and this is our way of giving back and promoting the business district,” said Kim Walter.

“We love collaborating with local artists as many are our vendors in our store and we host many art-related workshops. This is another way to highlight the local talent,” said Denise Dickson

Participants will show off their talents by creating chalk designs on the sidewalks in front of businesses on North Main Street near 44 Lakes Customized Gifts & Décor. Contestants are split up into age groups. In the category for ages 12 to adult, the top two winners will split all the money donated. In the category for ages 11 and under, the two winners will each win a gift bag. Those ages 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Dickson and Walter opened their store in November of 2023 and since then have hosted a business networking event, participated in community events such as helping distribute Christmas gifts to local families, and celebrated Downtown Gloversville with the Mardi Gras style activities on March 30.

More to enjoy on Saturday, May 18

Great Rentals, 59 N. Main St., will host an open house on May 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free shirts, flashlights, and koozies will be available, as well as a raffle, and local dirt track driver Stephen Gray will be on site from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Glove Theatre will host Floydian Trip, New England’s premier Pink Floyd Experience, at 7 p.m. on May 18. More than a tribute group, Floydian Trip brings the sights, sounds, and spirit of Pink Floyd in an immersive evening. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.ticketstripe.com/floydiantrip.
