Climate Smart Communities-Oneonta Environmental Fair

Oneonta, NY – The City of Oneonta will be hosting the Climate Smart Communities – Oneonta Environmental Fair on May 3rd, inviting local residents to learn about sustainability initiatives and climate action. This free event will take place at SUNY Oneonta’s ExCL Center (4 Dietz Street, Oneonta) from 9:00am to 12:00pm and will showcase a variety of activities aimed at empowering the community to take action on climate change.

The Environmental Fair will feature:

• Recycling Information: Learn about best practices for reducing waste and properly recycling.
• The ReUse Center and Repair Cafes: Discover ways to repurpose items and reduce waste through community-driven repair events.
• Community Solar: Get information on how to take advantage of solar energy and reduce your carbon footprint.
• Climate Action Plan: Find out about Oneonta’s Climate Action Plan and how residents can contribute to a sustainable future.
• Political Action on Climate: Learn how you can get involved in advocacy and political efforts to combat climate change.

“The Climate Smart Communities task force in Oneonta has been working hard for several months to promote activities that individuals and the City can take to both mitigate climate change and adapt to the inevitable shifts that a changing climate will bring to our community,” said Liz Brown, Chair of the Climate Smart Communities committee. “This event will offer a chance for Oneonta residents to find out not only what the task force is working on but how everyone can play an active role in helping to meet this challenge.”

The event is designed to encourage residents to think about how they can make sustainable choices in their daily lives while contributing to local and global climate action.

This year’s fair is presented by the City of Oneonta Climate Smart Communities Task Force, supported by local environmental groups, and is endorsed by city officials committed to reducing Oneonta’s environmental impact.
