Oneida County History Center Hosts Reunion of the 1983 Blue Sox

Oneida County History Center will host a 1983 Utica Blue Sox Reunion on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Baseball fans of all ages are invited to this exclusive meet-and-greet event featuring members of the legendary championship team.

The 1983 Utica Blue Sox captured the hearts of sports fans when an unaffiliated roster of second-chance ballplayers overcame steep odds to win the New York-Penn League championship at historic Murnane Field. Acclaimed author Roger Kahn famously immortalized this unforgettable “ragtag” season in his classic baseball book, Good Enough to Dream.

The reunion lineup features championship Manager Jim Gattis, star First Baseman Ed Wolfe, General Manager Joanne Gerace, and former WIBX broadcaster Tim Roye. Joining the celebration is filmmaker Brad Weatherly, who is currently adapting Good Enough to Dream, the acclaimed book chronicling that unforgettable season, into a motion picture script.

Attendees will have a unique opportunity to meet the players, hear firsthand stories from the historic season, and obtain autographs. The event will also feature a special display of team memorabilia curated by Gerace, whose behind-the-scenes leadership helped power the team’s miraculous championship run.

The event is open to the public and will take place at the Oneida County History Center.
