Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market Opens This Saturday at New Location

Opening day of the Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market on Saturday, June 6

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. — Grow Amsterdam NY and its partners are excited to welcome the community to the opening day of the Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market this Saturday at its new location in the parking lot of the Walter Elwood Museum, 100 Church St., Amsterdam.

Every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The market will operate every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October, providing residents with access to fresh, locally produced food and goods while supporting small farms and local businesses.

The City of Amsterdam, Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Soil & Water Conservation District, local farmers, community members and Grow Amsterdam NY have worked together over the past year to bring the market to life. Planning began in early 2025 and continued through the development of market rules, vendor recruitment and site selection.

The Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market was established to create opportunities for small local producers who may not have access to larger regional markets. Vendors participating in the market are located within approximately 20 miles of Amsterdam and offer a variety of locally grown and produced goods.

Among the vendors this season is FLAKNY Farm of Pattersonville. The D’Amico family, first-generation farmers who began raising pigs, chickens and cattle in 2022, will offer eggs and meat products at the market. A full list of participating vendors can be found on the Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market Facebook page.

The market aims to strengthen connections between local farmers and consumers while expanding access to fresh, local food throughout the community.

“Amsterdam has always been a community rooted in hard work, creativity and local pride,” said Mayor Michael Cinquanti. “This farmers market brings those strengths together in one place. We’re excited to welcome our farmers, artisans and neighbors for a weekly gathering that supports local agriculture and enhances the quality of life in our city.”

“We are thankful to our partners for entrusting the farmers market to Grow Amsterdam, to the farmers and producers who took a chance on a new market, and to the many individuals who shared their knowledge and guidance throughout the planning process,” said Tom Twente of Grow Amsterdam NY. “The support of our partners, State Senator Pat Fahy, Sidney Federal Credit Union and Amsterdam Rotary has helped ensure the market is positioned for long-term success and provides something meaningful for our community.”

Community members are encouraged to attend opening day, meet local farmers and producers, and support a new community tradition in Amsterdam.
