Guardians of Freedom Memorial, Inc. Opens Nominations for Wall of Honor
HERKIMER, NY – At a press conference held July 1 at the Guardians of Freedom Memorial site off New York State Thruway Exit 30, the Guardians of Freedom Memorial, Inc. Committee, along with Herkimer and Oneida Counties, officially launched the nomination process for its highly anticipated Wall of Honor.
The Wall of Honor will serve as a permanent tribute to deceased veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and K9 heroes from Herkimer and Oneida Counties. The initiative was announced with the support of local leaders, including Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente and Herkimer County Legislature Chairman Peter J. Campione, and aims to engage the public in recognizing local heroes who sacrificed for their community and country.
“The Guardians of Freedom Memorial is not just a place of remembrance, but a call to community,” said Jeremy Rich, Guardians of Freedom Committee Member and Central Valley Central School District Superintendent. “By opening the Wall of Honor to public nominations, we ensure every family has the opportunity to see their loved one’s legacy preserved for generations to come.”
Community members are now invited to nominate individuals who meet the criteria for inclusion. The nomination period closes on Friday, October 10. Instructions for submission for both Herkimer and Oneida County individuals are available on www.herkimercountynext.org or by calling 315-864-0009. The Wall of Honor is adjacent to the Guardians of Freedom Memorial, which honors military war dogs and their handlers with the likeness of fallen Marine Sergeant Adam Cann and his dog, Bruno.
“This Wall of Honor is a powerful testament to the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and protected our communities,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “By opening these nominations to the public, we are giving every family the chance to ensure their loved ones’ names and legacies live on. Oneida County is proud to stand alongside Herkimer County in supporting this meaningful tribute.”
