Guardians of Freedom Memorial, Inc. Receives $103,948 in Funding for Memorial Enhancements and Wall of Honor

Herkimer, NY – Guardians of Freedom Memorial, Inc. is proud to announce the receipt of an $81,948 grant award from the UpMobility Foundation, along with $11,000 in funding from Herkimer County Government and $11,000 from Oneida County Government. These funds will support enhancements to the Guardians of Freedom Memorial at Thruway Exit 30 in Herkimer and the creation of a Wall of Honor recognizing the heroes of Herkimer and Oneida Counties.

This new 20 foot long by 5.5-foot-tall granite Wall of Honor will serve as a lasting tribute to veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and K9 heroes from Herkimer and Oneida Counties who have selflessly served and protected our communities in times of peace and conflict.

In addition to funding the Wall of Honor, the UpMobility Foundation’s generous grant will improve the visitor experience by adding signage, benches, fencing, and other amenities to the site. These enhancements will ensure the memorial is not only a space for reflection but also an inviting destination where visitors can learn, honor, and pay their respects.

The Wall of Honor represents a collaborative effort between Herkimer and Oneida Counties, underscoring their shared commitment to preserving the legacy of these courageous individuals. This initiative highlights the unity and gratitude of both communities for those who have dedicated their lives to serving others.

The vision for the Wall of Honor originated with Herkimer County Legislator and Guardians of Freedom Memorial Committee Chairperson, John Brezinski, whose tireless dedication, and determination have been instrumental in bringing this project to life.

“We are deeply grateful for the generous support of the UpMobility Foundation, Herkimer County Government, and Oneida County Government led by County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. Their contributions have made this vision a reality. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to White Hill Memorials for generously donating their expertise and labor to craft the Wall of Honor,” said John Brezinski, spokesperson for Guardians of Freedom Memorial, Inc.

This announcement follows the successful unveiling of the Guardians of Freedom Memorial at Thruway Exit 30 in October 2023. The event drew more than 300 attendees, who gathered to honor United States Marine Corps Sgt. Adam Cann and his K9 partner, Bruno—a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve.

Guardians of Freedom Memorial, Inc. remains steadfast in its mission to honor the heroes who have sacrificed so much for their communities. The Wall of Honor will stand as a powerful and enduring symbol of gratitude and remembrance, fostering unity and appreciation across the region.

Details about how community members can nominate individuals for name placement on the Wall of Honor will be announced in the coming weeks.
