Mohawk Valley Fall Foliage
Fall Foliage Changes Begin
This week marks the first official week of the fall foliage tracking by I Love NY. Week 1 report:
First Significant color changes reported in Adirondacks and Catskills. Foliage change in other regions like the Mohawk Valley at 5% or less. We are seeing some leaves changing colors and the first few leaves falling.
Living Through the Seasons
One of the many benefits of being in the Mohawk Valley is being part of the seasons throughout the year. Each change of season shows us the wonders of the life cycles of all the plants, animals and wildlife in the Mohawk Valley. We are part of this seasonal cycle with the changes of the seasons guiding our lives as well. The leaves changing color as well as the lowering temps are visual and physical indicators of the change of season. (Sweata-Weatha)
Thinking back to the awakening of Spring and the renewed life it brings, followed by the warm days of Summer filled with being outdoors making memories with friends and family. Autumn now shows us it’s it time to bring in the harvest, prepare for the coming months, and reflect on the lessons the past seasons have taught us.
Autumn is also the wonderful time of the year to get out and enjoy the beauty of the Mohawk Valley. The landscape changes from green to yellow, brilliant orange and bright red of the trees throughout the Mohawk Valley.
Take in the Mohawk Valley Fall Foliage
Here are just a few ways to take in the scenic beauty of the Mohawk Valley.
This is a very enjoyable way to relax and let someone else do the driving while you get to stare out the window enjoying the scenic views. Take the Adirondack Scenic Rail from Utica Union Station to Thendara near Old Forge. The scenic train ride is one to remember. The Adirondack Scenic Railway offers several different schedules, destinations and departure times. Be sure to visit their website to book your scenic railway trip today.
After taking the Adirondack Scenic Railway to Thendara Station, you can extend your tour with Adirondack Rail Bike Adventures. These tours leave out of Thendara station and typically last 2 hours round trip. Each bike carries 4 riders along the rails through the scenic forests.
Fall is a great time to take a cruise with us on the Erie Canal! There are many interesting boats passing through this time of year. It’s always fun to hear where they are headed and where they came from as they travel across New York on the Erie Canal.
They offer sight-seeing cruises 7 days a week through October 10th. Check the website for more details on cruise schedules and to purchase tickets.
