M.W. Roosevelt & Son

Montgomery County Small Business of the Month M.W. Roosevelt & Son

CANAJOHARIE, NY — The Montgomery County Business Development Center (MCBDC) is proud to recognize M.W. Roosevelt & Son, Inc. as its Small Business of the Month, celebrating an incredible 90 years of serving the Mohawk Valley through four generations of family ownership.

Founded in 1936 by Melfred “Jake” Roosevelt, M.W. Roosevelt & Son began as a small automotive repair business in Fultonville. Nearly nine decades later, the company has grown into one of the region’s most respected automotive service, towing, recovery, collision repair, and heavy-duty mechanical service providers while remaining true to the values that have guided the business since its founding. Today, the company continues under the leadership of Warren Roosevelt Jr., with the fourth generation represented by Janelle Post and her husband Ryan, ensuring the Roosevelt family’s legacy will continue for years to come.

Over the years, M.W. Roosevelt & Son has earned a reputation for reliability, professionalism, and customer service. The business has served as a New York State Thruway Authorized Towing and Road Service Provider for more than five decades and maintains longstanding partnerships with AAA and other major roadside assistance providers. From routine automotive maintenance and collision repair to heavy-duty truck service and 24-hour emergency towing and recovery, Roosevelt’s has become a trusted resource for residents, businesses, municipalities, and travelers throughout the region.

One of the company’s most recognizable pieces of history is its legendary “Holmeswrecker,” a historic tow truck that has become a symbol of the Roosevelt family’s contributions to the towing industry. The truck is proudly displayed at the International Towing & Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where it represents both the company’s legacy and the important role family-owned towing companies have played in the evolution of the industry. The museum preserves the history of the towing and recovery profession and showcases historic tow trucks from across the country.

“Businesses like M.W. Roosevelt & Son are what make Montgomery County special,” said Montgomery County Executive Pete Vroman. “For 90 years, the Roosevelt family has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to quality service, hard work, and our community. Their ability to successfully pass the business from one generation to the next while continuing to grow and adapt is a remarkable achievement. We are proud to recognize their contributions and congratulate them on this well-deserved honor.”

The company’s longevity reflects not only its ability to evolve with changing technology and customer needs, but also its unwavering dedication to providing dependable service with honesty and integrity. That commitment has allowed Roosevelt’s to remain one of the Mohawk Valley’s most trusted names in automotive service for generations.

“Reaching 90 years in business is an extraordinary accomplishment that very few companies achieve,” said Ken Rose, Director of the Montgomery County Business Development Center. “The Roosevelt family has built a business known for its professionalism, innovation, and exceptional customer service. Their investment in the community, commitment to their employees, and willingness to continually modernize while honoring their family’s legacy make them an outstanding example of the strength of small businesses in Montgomery County.”

Warren Roosevelt Jr. reflected on the milestone:

“Celebrating 90 years in business is something our family is incredibly proud of. We wouldn’t be here without the loyalty of our customers, the dedication of our employees, and the support of the communities we’ve been privileged to serve for generations. Our family has always believed in treating people the right way, providing quality service, and giving back whenever we can. It’s an honor to continue the legacy started by my grandfather, and we’re excited to carry that tradition forward for many years to come.”

As M.W. Roosevelt & Son celebrates its 90th anniversary, the company continues to invest in its people, equipment, and services while maintaining the values established by Jake Roosevelt nearly a century ago. Their story is a testament to the strength of family-owned businesses and the important role they play in the economic vitality of Montgomery County.
