Whitesboro or Bust!
I knew moving to the Mohawk Valley was going to be an exciting adventure, offering a mix of urban amenities and small-town charm, along with beautiful natural surroundings from my several trips to the area during 2023 and the first half of 2024. On top of that, I had acquired a vast knowledge of the kinds of events, gatherings, and hard work that the people in the Mohawk Valley take part in each week thanks to Mohawk Valley Today. I had, for a moment, thought that this was special because I had this grand behind-the-scenes view from the work I had done, but I was totally wrong! This knowledge is special to ALL who click into and frequent MVT, all who see the locally written articles, historical pieces, events and more waiting for them and their families in this beautiful area.
The Mohawk Valley for All
The Mohawk Valley, often defined as these six counties- Oneida, Herkimer, Otsego, Fulton, Montgomery, and Schoharie- is known for its affordable living, seasonal beauty, and friendly communities. But did you know that it’s also safe? Safety is often a top priority for anyone moving to a new area, and the Mohawk Valley offers safe neighborhoods that are well-suited for single residents, families, and farms!
Many small towns, such as Herkimer, Whitesboro, & Amsterdam have close-knit communities with low crime rates, making them ideal for those who want a sense of security. Even in bigger cities like Utica, neighborhoods like North Gage, Bakers Corners, and New Hartford offer quieter living environments within a short distance from downtown amenities. And that’s just one of the several larger cities in the Mohawk Valley.
What’s the Verdict?
For me, all this evidence proved to outweigh the fears and unknowns of moving to a completely different state. Not only did I move here, but I bought a house with my best friend! Call us crazy but we knew we wanted a place to make our own and investing in the area is a great joy that keeps on giving for us.
Our home has been lovingly named Thornback Manor. She’s a large older home and the history we’ve uncovered about the area just in the search for the home’s history has been a unique and fruitful journey. I’ve included pictures of a few of the restorative projects we’ve started as well as a small peek at some of the newspapers we found in the home from 1921! This historic beauty is equipped with an extra apartment and in staying true to its origins with boarding traveling farmers or workers back in the mid 1800’s- we’ve decided it would be perfect for traveling nurses or other various traveling workers in this modern day as well!
