Moving to the Mohawk Valley
My journey to the Mohawk Valley Today started unorthodoxically in my home office in Clovis, New Mexico during the winter of 2022. I had no idea then that I’d be sitting in a home office in Whitesboro just under two years later! Ginny and Jim Rogers took a chance on their daughter’s friend from across the country and it has opened doors and opportunities that I wouldn’t have dared dream of then!
Meeting the Rogers’
Ginny and Jim’s daughter, Sarah, and I met over 12 years ago in Washington state having met through our mutual association with the military and quickly became fast friends! The next year we went on to move in short succession to a base in New Mexico where we both lived on and off for 9 years. We found great support in one another during our time with the military and by the time Sarah moved we were more family than friends.
In the year following Sarah’s move I found myself at a point my life where I knew needed a change but felt stuck in what I could do and where I could go. Enter Mohawk Valley Today. Much the same to my enjoyment of knowing Sarah, Ginny and Jim quickly became not only my friends but “partners in crime” for all things Mohawk Valley! The doors started opening—big time.
Falling in love with the Mohawk Valley and Central New York
Joining forces with Mohawk Valley Today as social media manager gave me a front row seat to learn all about what makes the Mohawk Valley so special— the history, event scene, outdoor opportunities, ecological mindfulness and small-town vibes that wind all throughout this region. We all worked on a three-part series about how affordable the cost of living is here, and that research tipped the scales for me and shifted my plans to end up here during the summer of 2023.
Making the move
Like many good things, moving to the Mohawk Valley took time and a lot of planning (a divorce, two moves, and 9 months of living with my parents to be exact). In the year following that decision, with the hard work of Ginny, Jim, Sarah, and I— the Mohawk Valley is my home. Moving here in September has altered my life in such a positive way and I hope you’ll stick around in the coming weeks as I detail more of the move, what lead me to Whitesboro, renovating our 1800’s home and what we plan on doing with Mohawk Valley Today going forward!
