About the owner of Stone Soup American Bistro and Beer Garden

Herkimer native, restauranteur and father of two, Rob Cirillo, wants to give back to his hometown. Growing up in an Italian and Irish family, Rob has many happy memories living in Herkimer. He loved the variety and taste of different foods that can be found in the area.

Once Rob grew up and moved away, he gravitated toward the restaurant business. He worked his way up at different locations to where he was on teams, and led teams, to open restaurants around the country. Rob recently moved back to Herkimer to open a fantastic new restaurant fueled by a passion to do good things for his hometown of Herkimer.

Stone Soup American Bistro

What you’ll find on the menu is a variety of different cooking styles and flavor options. Thanks to the owner’s formal culinary training in French, Japanese and Italian cuisine, flavors and dishes come from around the world and that is intentional. Rob’s experience has allowed him to delve into the foods and flavors from different cultures and he brings that experience to the Stone Soup American Bistro.

It is precisely this coming together of different flavors and influences, and one of his daughter’s favorite books, “Stone Soup,” that inspired the name of the restaurant. In the story, a weary traveler arrives in a village looking for a meal and some rest. After setting up a cauldron with a stone and water, villagers one-by-one bring what they have like cabbage, potatoes, meat and other ingredients to make a delicious meal that feeds them all. At Stone Soup American Bistro, a variety of flavors from different influences results in a uniquely distinctive menu that truly delights the palette.

One thing to know is we’re not just soup, we are so much more. We serve lunch and dinner with an eclectic menu of worldly influenced food from six different countries and different regions of the United States…Since the restaurant’s opening in May, there has been a steady influx of local customers as well as folks visiting from as far away as Albany, Saratoga, and Syracuse.

Did you know…

Rob and his brother are Korean and were adopted as young boys by an Italian and Irish family here in Herkimer.

Some people don’t know there is a beer garden and large outdoor dining area, which is the biggest in the area. Often you’ll find great entertainment in the beer garden offering a comfortable atmosphere.

Rob and his brother are passionate about food including cooking, eating, and the history of food from different cultures and influences.
