Herkimer County Community College Launches “60 Acts of Service for 60 Years”
In celebration of its 60th anniversary, Herkimer County Community College is launching 60 Acts of Service for 60 Years.
Through this initiative, the College is inviting Herkimer County municipalities and nonprofit organizations that serve Herkimer County to submit proposed service projects that can be carried out by students, faculty, and staff. The initiative aims to strengthen community partnerships and address local needs while completing 60 meaningful acts of service by the end of 2026.
President Terri Grates Day said, “Each act is a simple but sincere way of saying thank you to a community that has supported this institution for decades. Service has always been part of who we are, and this initiative brings that commitment to life.”
Community organizations are encouraged to submit a service request form outlining volunteer needs or project ideas. Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to, community clean-ups, donation drives, mentoring or tutoring programs, support for special events or programs, reading, STEM, or arts initiatives, build days, environmental projects, and similar efforts.
Service requests will be reviewed by the College and, if selected, matched with a campus group that will coordinate directly with the organization to bring the project to life.
Students, faculty, and staff are also encouraged to participate by volunteering through their clubs, teams, classes, departments, or committees. Campus groups may choose from approved community projects or propose their own service projects aligned with the initiative.
Every completed project will be featured on a digital service tracker and recognized during an end-of-year celebration.
Nonprofit organizations interested in partnering with the college in its 60 Acts of Service for 60 Years are encouraged to visit www.herkimer.edu/service for more information and to access the service request form.
