CRG Connects Property Owner to Qualified Production Facility Designation
JOHNSTOWN, NY – Ronald M. Peters, President and CEO of the Fulton County Center for Regional Growth (CRG), is pleased to announce that Fulton County has officially secured its first New York State Qualified Production Facility (QPF). The designation marks a major milestone in the county’s economic development strategy, opening the door for major motion picture and television productions to utilize the region while benefiting from significant state tax credits.
Johnstown site listed in the NYS Soundstage Directory
The facility, located at 4 Industrial Pkwy, Johnstown, NY 12095, is owned by Olbrych Realty Inc. Spanning just over 28,000 square feet, the site has met the rigorous criteria set by Empire State Development (ESD) to be listed in the official New York State Soundstage Directory. The path to this designation began when Peters connected the property owner with state officials to navigate the complex application and paperwork process. Although the facility is technically located within the City of Johnstown lines, its status as a QPF serves as a strategic “anchor” for productions filming anywhere throughout Fulton County.
“This is a game-changer for our region,” said Ron Peters, President and CEO of CRG. “By securing a qualified facility right here in Johnstown, we are sending a clear message to the film industry: Fulton County is open for business. We have the landscapes, the historic architecture, and now, the official infrastructure required to compete with larger production hubs.”
New York State’s Film Tax Credit program requires a certain percentage of filming to occur at or near a Qualified Production Facility. With the Olbrych Realty site now certified, production companies can film on location across Fulton County’s scenic landscapes—from the Great Sacandaga Lake to the historic streets of Gloversville—while meeting their facility requirements locally.
To support this new industry venture, CRG is currently developing a comprehensive “Film Fulton County” information packet.
This resource will be tailored to production companies and location scouts, providing essential data on local accommodations, travel and logistics, and local services.
“Economic development is about more than just traditional manufacturing; it’s about diversifying our portfolio,” Peters added. “The film industry brings immediate spending to our small businesses, restaurants, and hotels. We are excited to welcome the creative community to discover what makes Fulton County a premier destination for storytelling.” For more information about the facility or to inquire about filming in Fulton County, please contact the CRG at (518) 725-7700.
