Mohawk Valley Featured Farm: West End Farm
There’s nothing like the taste and freshness of produce grown right here in the Mohawk Valley. Our local farms do everything they can to make produce easily accessible to consumers through farmers’ markets as well as farm stands and stores like this week’s West End Farm.
West End Farm is a local-family owned and operated produce and poultry farm located in Herkimer NY. They strive to help our community by providing fresh produce all season long. West End Farm was recently honored as the first recipients of the first annual Cultivate Herkimer Award presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Herkimer County. This award was given in recognition of West End’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and equitable food access. Through their hard work operating the Veggie Van in my;lapel locations each week, the Veggie Van reached 1,498 Herkimer County residents and provided them with fresh, healthy food and nutrition education. They partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Herkimer County to operate the veggie van. The veggie van is funded by Herkimer County HealthNet, UpMobility, and Excellus Bluecross Blueshield. The veggie van is a food access intervention, and we are targeting underserved communities.

Living on a farm is such a special and beautiful thing. Not only is it rewarding, but it also brings much peace to your soul. It makes you respect nature and everything around you. The hard work definitely builds up your work ethic and being involved so heavily in the community builds lifelong relationships. Working with family is one of the greatest gifts you could ask for. It makes everything worthwhile. We need to teach today’s generation responsibility and the importance of life!

Whitesboro Farmers’ Market beginning in June and through to October from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The Whitesboro Farmers’ Market at the corner of Main St & Clinton St. (Village Green)
Wednesday
New Hartford Farmers’ Market starts June 12th and runs through Aug 28th from 2:30. p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Oxford Rd at the Village Green.
Saturday
West End Farms is at two locations!
Utica Public Market at the Utica Train Station from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is a year round market.
Frankfort Farmers’ Market begins July 6th and runs through September 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Frankfort Marina.
