Why Dolgeville Celebrates Violets
A man by the name of Lyndon Lyon from the Village of Dolgeville, NY, hybridized the very first “double-pink” African Violet in 1954 in his backyard greenhouse. People began driving from all over the country to see and purchase these unique double-pink violets. Soon demand for these unique violets was so great that Lyndon and his family could not grow the plants fast enough! In 1956 and again in 1959 he built additional greenhouse to keep up with demand. And well, the rest is history as the African Violet became one of the most popular house plants across the country. Discover the rich horticultural heritage and learn more about Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses, home to a stunning selection of African Violets, orchids along with many other exotic houseplants.
If you love houseplants and horticulture, you’ll love Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses
Our greenhouses are filled with an even larger selection of African Violets and gesneriads, plus many other exotic houseplants and orchids too numerous to list. Our personal orchid collection is on exhibit year-round. Cameras are always welcome! – Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses
