History and Hauntings Event Held at Old Montgomery County Courthouse
Paranormal Researcher Brian Cano Hosts Workshop Alongside County Staff
FONDA– History, mystery, and a touch of the paranormal came together this past Saturday as Visit Montgomery County, NY hosted the highly anticipated “An Evening of History and Hauntings” featuring paranormal expert Brian Cano. The sold-out event drew enthusiasts from across the region, eager to explore the connection between local history and supernatural phenomena.
Held at the Old Montgomery County Courthouse, the event brought together residents and visitors alike, giving them the tools to investigate their own homes and an opportunity to investigate the courthouse with Cano, known for his work on the Travel Channel’s “Paranormal Caught on Camera.” The Old County Courthouse is part of the Haunted History Trail of New York State, an initiative intended to boost tourism.
In addition to the investigation, representatives from History and Archives, Real Property and Personnel explained how local counties provide valuable resources for conducting research. They demonstrated tools for understanding and interpreting historical documents, including how to read tax maps, property deeds and other records. These resources, which are available to the public, offer a wealth of information for those looking to explore local history or trace the ownership of land and properties.
“We wanted to give people the tools to do their own research,” Montgomery County Director of History and Archives Kelly Farquhar said. “I’m excited we opened our doors to the public and engaged them in utilizing the resources we have locally.”
Given the success of the History and Hauntings, Visit Montgomery County plans to host future events at the Old County Courthouse.
