We’re counting down to Eat, Stink & Be Merry at this year’s Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival

The Mohawk Valley’s climate and soils are ideal for growing garlic and herbs, which is why we have so many local producers. The Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival is a non-profit agricultural festival–”we aim to provide information to area would-be farmers and gardeners pertaining to the benefits of growing these crops.” Additionally, a portion of festival proceeds goes to education and the arts in the Mohawk Valley.

Talking with Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival organizers, we learned people frequently ask about bringing dogs. “Our insurance policy does not allow us to have dogs on our festival grounds. We are a unique festival held in a closed-in area of Little Falls, hosting thousands of people. The safety of our visitors is our first priority.”

Another frequently asked question that comes up is, “Why do you charge for admission?” The straight-forward answer is, “We don’t. Our unique festival asks for a small, $5.00 suggested donation. Because of your donations, we are able to fulfill our mission of promoting local farmers and local trade by spending thousands of dollars on advertising, etc. We keep our suggested donation and our vendor fees low to maximize our vendors’ earnings.”

Garlic growers and farmers bring generations of experience to the festival which offers everyone the benefit of learning how they can “eat, stink and be merry” all year long.
