Mohawk Valley Today Featured Weekend Events August 16-18, 2024

This weekend is packed with fun at lots of exciting events all across the Mohawk Valley! Thanks so much to everyone for sending us what’s happening in their communities including Frankfort with the Herkimer County Fair, Herkimer, Gloversville, Old Forge, German Flatts, Caroga Lake and Little Falls. Be sure to treat yourself to the best fresh produce available in the valley at local Farmers’ Markets.

Herkimer County Fair

The Herkimer County Fair is in full swing bringing the best of agriculture and entertainment to the Mohawk Valley. With this year’s theme being “Saddle Up and Come on down to the Fair,” that’s exactly what you need to do to enjoy lots of agricultural, rides, food and more. There’s so much to look forward in this weekend’s schedule! Get ready for awesome agricultural competitions, shows, the demolition derby, and musical talent.

NYS Woodsman’s Field Days

The NYS Woodsman’s Field Days takes place beginning at 8:00 a.m. on August 16, 2024, and runs through Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Boonville Oneida County Fairgrounds located at 222 Schuyler St, Boonville, NY. This 3-day event features a packed schedule all day, every day.

German Flatts Living History Weekend

The German Flatts Living History Weekend takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. August 17 and 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on August 18, 2024 at the German Flatts Town Park located at 555 State Route 5S, Mohawk, NY.

This living history weekend will have Civil War Era Confederate and Union re-enactors portraying an exciting and unique battle at 12:00 p.m. Additional reenactors will also represent Revolutionary War era, World War II, and 16th Century Pilgrims equipped with flint light muskets.

Herkimer Home Commemoration

Herkimer Home State Historic Site invites you to join them for their annual commemorative wreath laying and ceremony to celebrate the life, sacrifice, and impact of General Nicholas Herkimer in the colonial world of the Mohawk Valley.

This year’s commemoration will be held on Saturday, August 17th at 1pm at Herkimer Home State Historic Site. Admission is free and the mansion and grounds will remain open following the ceremony with living history activities and presentations throughout the day.

Caroga Lake Music Festival Finale

Get ready for the Festival Finale at Sherman’s Park, featuring Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony performed by the Caroga Arts Ensemble. On Saturday, bring the whole family to enjoy Louie the Loon! at Sherman’s Park. Later that night, join for A Night at the Symphony with Eddie Barbash at Sherman’s Park. The festival concludes on Sunday with a repeat performance of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony at Sherman’s Park, featuring the Caroga Arts Ensemble and Fabiola Kim and Nate West performing Bottesini’s Gran Duo Concertante. Carousel rides and food/drink vendors, including Stump City Brewery, will be available at Sherman’s Park, with carousel access for ticket holders starting two hours before performances. Buy Tickets Here.

The Glove Theatre Presents its Fourth Annual Glove Academy, Featuring Original Youth-Created Musical, The Necklace

This year is a banner year for The Academy, which boasts its highest student enrollment ever with 22 full-time students. The teaching artists have also tweaked the rollout of the students’ production, streamlining it from three short musicals written by three groups of students to a program-wide adaptation of a piece of world literature in the form of Guy de Maupassant’s darkly comedic short story, The Necklace. The production offers performances all weekend so pick a day and time to enjoy this musical at The Glove Theatre.

Old Forge Library Bash

The beauty of the Adirondacks will be on full display at the Old Forge Friends of the Library’s summer raffle event on Sunday, August 18 from 3-5 pm on the front lawn. In support of the Library’s annual fundraising event, local merchants and artisans have donated dozens of items, including ADK clothing, photographs, jewelry, decor, and gift certificates from their restaurants and stores. Some items are part of the raffle and others will be door prizes. The perennial favorites of a sculpture from Joni Dyer and a chickadee by Bob Zimmerman are once again included in the raffle.
