Mohawk Valley Today Featured Weekend Events August 2-4, 2024

Plenty to do this weekend throughout the Mohawk Valley! Thanks so much to everyone for sending us their events happening in Morris during the Otsego County Fair, Cooperstown, Herkimer, Gloversville, Amsterdam, Rome and Utica. Be sure to stock up on locally grown, fresh produce at local Farmers’ Markets.

Otsego County Fair

The Otsego County Fair in Morris takes entertainment to the next level with a spectacular lineup of shows and performances throughout day and into the night. From parades to tractor pulls, music and derby fun, there’s lots to enjoy at the fair grounds. The Entertainment Tent features talented musical artists with a variety of live music during all six days. Take a look at all the events and attractions here.

Zucchini Day at the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market

They have added a lot of sports to the Olympics, but for zucchini car racing, you’ll have to come to the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market on Saturday, August 3 (10 am to 1 pm) and Tuesday, August 6 (12:30 pm to 3:30 pm).

Kids can create a zucchini car and then race it down a 16-foot custom track. There will also be zucchini recipe cards and zucchini coloring sheets.

Saturday Zucchini Races will be held August 10 in the event of rain.

Amsterdam Riverfest

Spend a beautiful day and night by the Mohawk River at the Amsterdam Riverfest where you can shop, enjoy delicious food, live music, and a spectacular fireworks display!

The day starts off at 1 p.m. with vendors, a kids’ zone, face painting, food trucks, and arts and crafts. The Amsterdam X-Squad Water Ski Show will hit the water at 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Attendees will enjoy 2:30 p.m., DJ Steve Cowles 3:30 p.m. our headliner Diane Eames and Steve Cowles at 7 p.m. Stay for the fireworks display over the Mohawk River.

Herkimer, NY: The Little Mermaid Jr.

Our Campers have been working so hard and this will be the performance of the summer!! Enjoy The Little Mermaid Jr. stage musical at Herkimer High School on August 2-3. Produced by Disney Theatrical it is based on the animated 1989 Disney film of the same nameand the classic story of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen about a mermaid who dreams of the world above the sea and gives up her voice to find love. 2024 Community Fun Fest

On Sunday, August 4, 2024 from 12:30-4:00 p.m. join the Holy Trinity and Holy Spirit Catholic Parishes for their 2024 Community Fun Fest! Food, pastries, games, music, and summer fun for everyone. Held at the Church of the Holy Spirit Lot, 153 S Main Street, Gloversville.

Glove Academy Share Day

The Glove Academy presents it’s annual Share Day, featuring open classes, presentations of exercises and projects prepared in the students’ classes, a teaser of the Academy students’ original musical adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s The Necklace, and a TalkBack with our Rising Stars about their journey through the Academy training, collaboration, and their personal growth. This event is FREE to attend! Come and support our Rising Stars and learn more about this unique and exciting program.

Fulton County Museum

Explore the Glove Theatre Museum on Friday, August 2nd, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. admission is free (donations appreciated).

Join the Fulton County Historical Society at the Glove Theatre Museum and discover Gloversville’s fascinating entertainment history! The museum was recently reorganized and reopened in the summer of 2023. Theatre volunteers will be on-hand to answer questions and discuss ongoing projects. This is a must-do for anyone interested in film, the arts, and the revitalization of the city’s historic downtown.

Fulton County Historical Society Military Re-enactor Encampment at the Museum on Saturday, August 3rd, from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

From 1914-1918, the world was thrown into total war in a way that it had never before seen. The experiences of the soldiers who served – from America, Germany, France, and elsewhere – were varied and complex. Join us at the museum for this special living history event, featuring a select group of re-enactors and historians who have delved deep into researching the lives and experiences of men from both sides of the conflict.

Dorn Space Open Mic

Join Dorn Space for Open Mic on Sunday, August 4, with Family-Friendly Music, Poetry, Prose, Preaching, Prayer, Storytelling, Comedy, Testimonies, etc… (7 Minutes/Spot). FREE Admission (Donations Appreciated). Doors open and sign-up begins at 1:15 pm.

Utica and Rome events this weekend

Canal Fest at Bellamy Park

Come join the fun at Bellamy Park, Rome NY Saturday August 3d 2024. The Kids Fun Race will immediately follow Rotary’s Fishing Derby which runs from 8:00am to Noon. Registration for the run will be from 11:00am to 12:00 pm at the boathouse and is free for kids 12 yrs and under. Get ready for fun and food during the Canal Fest with vendors inside and outside the boathouse. There will be a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the main gate. Enjoy inflatables, dunk tank along with music and karaoke. Sponsored by the Rotary.

Get energized at the Tremontane in Utica

It’s been too long and now finally, The Elephant In The Room RETURNS to his Utica Stomping Grounds for a One-Night-Only Juggernaut Performance Evening at The Tramontane Cafe! Elephant will be bringing his trademark Raw, Gutsy, Full-Hearted Gonzo Punk Rock Soul and a trunk full of songs to inspire, electrify, and energize all to engage the larger-than-life perspective he brings for folks who want to feel ALIVE and BE LOUD ABOUT IT! Joining the Elephant will be our Tramily friends Fred Gillen Jr, Jerry D, and Brian Premo. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm; donations accepted for performers, plus the Cafe’s full menu will be available all evening long.
