Mohawk Valley Today Featured Weekend Events August 9-11, 2024

There’s plenty to do this weekend throughout the Mohawk Valley! Thanks so much to everyone for sending us their events happening in Cobleskill during the Schoharie County Fair, Little Falls, Gloversville, Canajoharie, Rome and Utica. We’re celebrating National Farmers’ Market week so be sure to get your locally grown, fresh produce at area Farmers’ Markets.

Schoharie County Sunshine Fair

The Schoharie County Sunshine Fair takes place August 6 -11, 2024 at the Schoharie County Sunshine Fairgrounds located at 113 Sunshine Drive, Cobleskill, Schoharie County, NY. This year marks the 147th Annual Fair! The Schoharie County Sunshine Fairgrounds focuses on providing a space where agricultural enthusiasts can enjoy quality entertainment at an affordable price. Gloversville RailFest

Join in the fun at the 18th annual Gloversville Railfest on Saturday, August 10th, at Trail Station Park. You’re in store fun-filled day with plenty of excitement and community spirit from 10am to 8pm. There will be live music all day! Enjoy performances from local artists including the North Allen Duo, Big Unity Band, Unjust Ritual, and BurnsMoore Bridge, with special appearances by Jak The Visual Deception Artist and Flame.

Get ready for loads of Family Fun!

Kids will love the bounce houses, petting zoo, giant bounce obstacle course, dunk tank, giant Jenga, giant Connect Four, and corn hole. The spray pad will also be on throughout the day.
There will also be opportunities to “Meet the Racers”: Glen Ridge Motorsports will be there with race cars, and drivers will be signing autographs, as well as shopping and plenty of food! Browse through our vendor fair with products from various vendors and enjoy delicious food from local artisans. Special activities feature a used bicycle auction and basket raffles!

Little Falls Canal Celebration

The Little Falls Canal Celebration began on August 7th and runs through Sunday, August 11, 2024. Now in its 37th year, the Little Falls Canal Celebration is a great time for all!

  • Saturday – Events all day throughout the city including Canal Place and Ward Square, Little Falls Historical Society Museum tours including self-guided tours, Southside walking tour, Art Fair and Farmers’ Market and Golf Tournament, with food by Chicks Along the Canal, and so much more.
  • Sunday – Canal Celebration Car Show, Eastern Park Expo, Chicken and Rib BBQ.

This year’s Little Falls Canal Celebration is packed with activities, the Art Fair, fireworks, food, special events, historical self-guided tours, and so much more!

Art Fair at Canal Place

The Art Fair will be a vibrant event that will take place in Little Falls on Saturday, August 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Fair will be held on Main Street and will feature local artists displaying and selling their work, live music, food trucks, and great local restaurants, ensuring a lively and festive atmosphere for all attendees.

Chicks Along the Canal

The 14th Annual Chicks Along the Canal Outdoor Marketplace takes place from 10:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Chicks Along the Canal is defined as, “A glorified flea market festival setting for creative women entrepreneurs to show their wares, do some shopping, and partake in women-owned business comradeship.’”

Lego Building Contest at Arkell

Visit the classroom of the Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library between August 7th- 10th for an all day, drop-in, LEGO Building Contest. All entries will be displayed in the adult fiction section of the Library from August 13th- 17th for voting in person and on Facebook. The winner will receive a prize! This is a free program. All ages are welcome to participate.

Rome Community Theater Presents, “Yo, Vikings!”

Ahoy, little adventurers! Set sail with us for “Yo Vikings! A Children’s Musical,” presented by Rome Community Theater! Event takes place at 8911 Turnin Road in Rome, NY. Join in the fun on August 8-10 at 7 p.m. and August 11 at 2:30 p.m. for a swashbuckling journey of fun and discovery. Don’t miss this family-friendly adventure on stage!

Emma Katz is a spunky 10-year-old in the Philadelphia suburbs whose constant forays into her imagination (and consequent costume changes) put her at odds with her more conservative friends and family. When Emma’s teacher assigns her Erik the Red for her World Discovery Day report, Emma begins to channel her own inner Viking, setting off on a real adventure to change her community for the better.

Utica Creative Reuse Pop-Up Shop

Utica Creative Reuse is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting creativity, community and environmental stewardship through the creative reuse of reclaimed materials and equitable access to arts education and programming.

The Utica Creative Reuse Pop-Up Shop will be at the Oneida County Public Market on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 9:00a.m. until 1:00p.m where you can shop second hand fine arts & crafting supplies in our pop-up art supply thrift store! Fenimore Art Museum’s Annual Art by the Lake Event

Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown presents its seventeenth annual Art by the Lake celebrating artists who are inspired by the region and its beauty. The event takes place Saturday, August 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the museum’s expansive lakefront lawn. A wide range of art will be available for visitors to see and purchase including watercolors, acrylics, oils, photographs, prints, ink drawings, sculptures, and more.Art by the Lake is a juried art competition featuring 26 artists from the region.

While at Art by the Lake, see Fenimore’s popular summer exhibitions including Bob Dylan Remastered: Drawings From the Road; Marc Hom: Re-Framed; Banksy: The Haight Street Rat; American Masterworks; and others–as well as the museum’s renowned collections. Frankfort Hill Community Day

The Frankfort Hill Volunteer Fire Company hosts is annual fundraiser and Chicken BBQ on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. or until they are sold out. Enjoy a great Chicken BBQ and share memories with family and friends!  There will also be a Basket Raffle and Bake sale for some fun and tasty treats. Take a step in time during tours of the 1841 one-room school.
