View Arts Center of Old Forge to host Quilts Unlimited Exposition

Quilts Unlimited Exposition runs from Friday, October 6th, until December 2, 2023 at View Arts Center in Old Forge, NY.

Located in historic and scenic Old Forge, View Arts Center is an arts and cultural center providing art exhibitions, community events, performances, classes, and workshops for all to enjoy and take part in, allowing area residents and visitors to experience art in many ways. The center’s long history all started with the inspiration of a local resident to put on an outdoor public art show and there has been no looking back ever since!

History of View

As described on View Arts Center’s website, it all began back in 1951 when,

Miriam “Mirnie” Kashiwa organized the first Central Adirondack Art Show, a regional art show in her front yard, with paintings hung on “walls” made from tree saplings and chicken wire.  The Central Adirondack Art Show is still held every Spring and celebrated its 70th Anniversary in 2021.

This interesting and inspiring story underscores what can happen when positive energy, community spirt, and inspiration becomes an amazing community resource right here in Herkimer County!

By the early 2000’s, after many yeas of growth in programs and community impact, is was time to build a permanent home. And in 2011 the new facility was completed. The U.S. Green Building Council awarded a Silver LEED Certification to View for their efforts to minimize their environmental impact during construction and beyond.

View Arts Center has many programs, exhibitions and maintains a full calendar of events throughout the year incorporating performance, hands-on experiences and exhibitions.

About Quilts Unlimited Exposition

Two key dates for the upcoming Quilts Unlimited Exposition. The Opening Reception takes place on Friday, October 6, 2023 beginning at 5:00pm, and the Quilts Unlimited Exposition runs from October 7th thoerugh December 2,m 2023. The exhibition is viewable during normal operating hours.

A Juried Exposition

This year’s juried exhibition will feature quilts created by some of the country’s finest quilters and fiber artists working today. The quilts on display demonstrate a range of techniques and designs from traditional quilting to contemporary art quilts. Each stunning quilt reflects the artist’s commitment to design, creativity and skill. The result is an extraordinary exhibition of quilts.

View will be holding a FREE Opening Reception for Quilts Unlimited and the other fiber exhibitions on October 6. All members and exhibiting artists are invited to a special preview of the show from 4-5pm, then it will open to the public from 5-7pm.  Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available.

ADK Quilt Conference

During the annual Quilts Unlimited Exhibition, View will host the 3rd annual ADK Quilt Conference on October 16-18. Attendees can choose from multiple workshops featuring both traditional and art quilting techniques, enjoy informal presentations from experts in the field, and network with fellow quilters.
