Village of Fonda Water Updates: Water Use and Disbursement Information
The Village of Fonda requests all Village Water System users to reduce their water usage until further notice. Your cooperation in this matter is crucial. This does NOT mean you cannot use the water for your daily necessities – we ask that you refrain from outdoor lawn watering, car washing, and similar activities.
To assist with the water use reduction request and alleviate this burden, the Village of Fonda will disperse Bottled Water (1-gallon containers) to our system’s water users. On Saturday, July 13, water was distributed to approximately 125 residents, helping the community with some of the basic need for water during this time.
Multi-agency and community support for the village
This effort was supported by several agencies, including Montgomery County Emergency Management Director Jeff Kaczor, the Montgomery County Highway Department, the Town of Mohawk, distribution assistance, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, the Town of Mohawk Fire Department, the Montgomery County Office of the Aging, and many others who assisted in communications. Your assistance did not go unnoticed, and the Village of Fonda is thankful for the unity and strength shown by our community.
We are deeply grateful to the generous donors, including Crystal Geyser, Stewart’s Shops, and Walmart, who made this possible.
Support for those unable to pick up their bottled water
In the coming days, the Village Office will contact people who are physically unable to retrieve their own bottled water, such as those with disabilities or our senior residents, so we may bring water to them.
We received communication from individuals requesting this assistance and had several other people who planned and retrieved water for their family members and neighbors who they were aware could not come out for their water.
We ask that you let us know if you are aware of someone who is house bound and who may need assistance.

Current Water Status: Boil Water
What: We remain under a Boil Water Notice for the consumption of all village water until further notice. As described in the June 27, 2024 notice, all water must be brought to a boil, and we recommend boiling it for at least 3 minutes.
Timeline: Until we receive the needed water quality results from our lab.
Why: Boiling water will assure your safety due to continued turbidity within the water and difficulties with the water filters.
Continued Use: Water from your tap remains safe for baths and showers. You may continue to use water for washing dishes. If using a dishwasher, you should have a high-temperature or sanitize feature that raises the water temperature to 170 degrees. If handwashing, add one ounce of bleach to each gallon of water for rinsing.
Reduced Water Usage
Please refrain from using village water to wash your car or water lawns. We are allowing our water filtration and storage systems to return to the needed levels for proper operation.
Timeline: Until further notice, our levels have returned to normal.
Discolored Water
If you have ongoing discolored water, please document it by emailing services@villageoffonda.ny.gov with the Subject Line “Discolored Water.” The discolored water is due to disturbances in the water transmission lines. This will allow our Water Commissioner to track areas with these ongoing issues for some of our customers. The water department may wish to come out and view your water by appointment.
