Mohawk Valley Today Featured Weekend Events July 12-14

Lots going on this weekend in almost every corner of the Mohawk Valley! Thanks so much to everyone for sending us their events happening in Gloversville, Fort Plain, Utica and Old Forge. Be sure to stock up on locally grown, fresh produce at local Farmers’ Markets.

Fort Plain Welcomes Cycle the Canal Riders

Fort Plain will be rolling out the red carpet for the cyclists as they host the Cycle the Erie Canal Tour participants and volunteers with a Welcome Party today and tomorrow!

Activities planned in Fort Plain include:

  • Music in Haslett Park. There will be two separate performances with music from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Carnival at the Village Hall! CORE has arranged for amusement rides adjacent to the Bike Path at the site of our new village hall.
  • Welcome Kiosks. There will be two welcome kiosks with one on the Bike Path where the riders enter the village and the second located right near Village Hall.

Boilermaker Events in Utica

In 1978, the Boilermaker began as a 15K road race with 876 runners, created to celebrate founding sponsor Utica Boiler’s 50th anniversary. Today, it is a week long extravaganza drawing over 20,000 runners, spectators, and volunteers.

Held in Utica, New York, the gateway to the Adirondacks, Boilermaker Week includes a host of activities for runners, the community, sponsors and volunteers.

Gloversville Has plenty going on this weekend!

Gloversville Food Truck Fridays continues today at Castiglione Park on North Main Street, and for this date, food vendors will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The musician performing on July 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. is Kyle Rix. Food truck vendors are Jammin’ Juice Bar, Parkside Hot Dogs, Teddy’s Gyros. Fulmont Community Action Agency and Gloversville Public Library will also be on hand.

The musician performing on July 12 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. is Johnny Gonzales. Food truck vendors are Nibbles & Bites, Lynn & Walt’s Walk-Up Wagon, Teddy’s Gyros, Parkside Hot Dogs, and Robb’s Topp Doggs Mobile Kitchen. Also that night is The Glove Theatre’s “Long King Kids” production at 42 N. Main St. People can purchase dinner there in the park and then purchase tickets at The Glove Theatre to stay for a show. (Theater representatives noted that audiences should buy tickets ahead of time as the show fills up quickly!

Be sure to enjoy workshops available at 44 Lakes including a Solar Lights Workshop and Welcome Summer Wreath Workshop.

Fulton County Museum After Hours Event

The museum is open late from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. today for their monthly After Hours event at 237 Kingsboro Ave in Gloversville! Explore exhibits after hours and enjoy some light refreshments. You can also catch a demo of the newest addition to the technology collection, a 1920s Edison Disc Phonograph. Be sure to check out this year’s special exhibit, “Road to Revolution: Exploring the People, Places, and Events of Tryon County, 1763-1776.”

Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown

On Saturday, July 13, join world-renowned luthier, Thomas Lieber, from 5:30-7:00pm at Fenimore Art Museum for a celebration and exploration of the creative spirit through conversation and song, inspired by the exhibition Bob Dylan Remastered: Drawings from the Road. Bob Dylan continues to be a multi-generational creative force. In the 1960s, his cultural presence became a fundamental archetype, inspiring the children of the era to embrace their own creative spirit and begin the long journey, not knowing the wonders ahead.
