Amsterdam Tree Lighting Ceremony 2024

Amsterdam, NY: The City of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Tourism, Marketing & Recreation Department presents Amsterdam’s Tree Lighting Festival sponsored by Montgomery County Public Health PFC Joseph P. Dwyer on Friday, November 29th on the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook Bridge at 4PM.

Mayor Michael Cinquanti stated, “I’m looking forward to the final event for the 2024 season. This should be the best Christmas tree-lighting ceremony yet!”

At 4:00 p.m. enjoy FREE horse drawn carriage rides, hats and gloves, hot cider and coffee sponsored by Sticker Mule, hot chocolate and baking goods by the Amsterdam Marching Rams and caroling with Mohawk Valley Chorus. Plus, be one of the first 300 to receive your free kids’ winter jacket sponsored by MVP Health Care. Children must be present to receive a coat while supplies last. The official lighting of our tree and Santa’s arrival will be at 4:30PM sponsored by MERIKA Holding, LLC and Rug City Bar and Lounge.

This year’s Tree Lighting Ceremony will be honoring and remembering PFC Joseph P. Dwyer and the Legacy of Service.

Montgomery County Health Director, Sara Boerenko stated “The Montgomery County Joseph P. Dwyer Peer to Peer Program is a vital asset to Veterans, military members and their families residing in Montgomery County.  This year, the Dwyer Program is happy to partner with the City of Amsterdam to dedicate this Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony to those that have served and to those that have lost their lives to serve this great Country. The Holiday Season can be a wonderful and magical time. But for many Veterans and families that have lost loved ones in combat, this time of year can prove to be lonely and isolating.  We know our Veterans are often the last demographic to ask for help or to admit that they struggle with mental wellness.  It is my hope, and the hope of the Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Program, that this year, every one of our service members, whether active duty or retired, knows that they are never alone, and our supporters are always here to help in times of need.  This vital funding from the New York State Office Of Mental Health allows us to host ceremonies such as this to bring together those impacted by mental health, those that have served our Country and  those struggling with grief to show that even for today, for this one moment, we are one and that our County resources will continue to provide for those that need us the most.”

Also, Santa dropped his Mailbox off at the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook! Bring your letters to Santa’s Mailbox with all your Christmas wishes; don’t forget to include your return address so Santa can send you a magical letter in return!
