Fresh Blueberries picked at Wereszczak’s Blueberry Farm in Herkimer, NY
Blueberry Picking in the Mohawk Valley
We recently tried blueberry picking at Wereszczak’s Blueberry Farm in Herkimer, NY.
Looking for a relaxing, fun, summertime outdoor activity in the Mohawk Valley? Perhaps blueberry picking might be right for you!
Our visit to the Wereczszak Blueberry Farm was a lot of fun!
This farm is a “u-pick” blueberry farm which grows exceptionally large blueberries and is situated on a hill overlooking the Mohawk Valley. We decided to go early in the morning before it got too hot and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. It was cool for a late July morning with a gentle breeze.
Planning ahead a little, we arrived shortly after picking hours began on opening day of the season. Being first timers and never having tried berry picking at a u-pick farm before, we were pretty excited. The folks at Wereczszak Farm were very helpful in getting us all set with buckets for collecting berries. They even pointed us to where the “best picking” would be!
I can tell you that we had a wonderful time! In a little over an hour we picked over 20 pounds of blueberries! As we were leaving our perfect berry-picking spot, we found it so hard to leave, too. As we were walking away with all of our blueberries, we were talking about the jams, sauces, blueberry cake and breads, that we planned to make.
When planning your day of blueberry picking be sure to call ahead and check the schedule.
Often the blueberry patch is closed to allow time for more blueberries to ripen throughout the season.
