Cooperstown, NY: The Fenimore Art Museum is proud to present a bold new staging of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, running Wednesday and Thursday evenings, July 16 through August 14 beginning at 7:00 PM in the museum’s Lucy B. Hamilton Amphitheater. This production celebrates the 10th Anniversary of Glimmer Globe Theatre’s acclaimed performances at the Fenimore, offering audiences a riveting and visually arresting interpretation of one of the most iconic plays ever written.

Set in a gothic nightmare inspired by classic silent films such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and The Passion of Joan of Arc, this haunting new vision of Hamlet explores the play’s themes of intensity, subversion, humor, and existential dread in a uniquely cinematic way.

The production features original music, dramatic scenic design, and thrilling fight choreography, all created by members of the region’s dynamic arts community.

“Perhaps referenced and quoted more than any other play, Hamlet is a rare theatrical work that has transcended the stage, becoming a bona-fide part of our culture,” said Michael Tamburrino, Performance Manager and the show Director. “Shakespeare’s great innovation with Hamlet, as I see it, was to depict the depth and complexity of human thought in motion, as it had never been seen onstage before.”

We hope to facilitate Hamlet’s interior world spilling out across the stage, allowing for this classic story to take on a new contemporary urgency for our audiences.

The title role is played by Jackie Madejski, a multitalented actor and theatre artist who has relocated to Otsego County for the summer to fully immerse herself in the role. She is joined by a talented cast of 17 local and regional performers whose passion and dedication bring new life to this timeless story.

This year’s production is made possible through the generous support of The Clark Foundation, C.J. Heilig Foundation, Mr. Tom Morgan, Mrs. Erna J. McReynolds, NYCM Insurance, and Dr. Richard Sternberg.

Tickets are available now at fenimoreart.org. Seating is outdoors and audiences are encouraged to arrive early and bring lawn chairs or blankets for their comfort. In case of inclement weather, the full show will be moved indoors to the Fenimore Art Museum Auditorium.

Don’t miss this thrilling summer tradition under the stars at the Fenimore Art Museum.
