Hartwick College’s Yager Museum of Art and Culture has announced its summer hours and June and July programming.

The museum will be open Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Aug. 1. Museum galleries will also be open on Juneteenth, June 19, and Independence Day, July 4.

Summer programming begins June 24, 25 and 26 with three days of Half Day Fun from 1 to 3 p.m. The program coincides with the final week of the exhibition, The Presence of Poe: The Life & Legacy of a Literary Icon, and will feature Poe-themed activities for families and children, including daily storytime at 2 p.m., videos and a variety of crafts.

Snacks will be available in the museum classroom to help power participants’ creativity and kids may also explore the museum on a scavenger hunt. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The museum will offer a special Afternoon at the Museum for families on Aug. 1, featuring craft stations, games and other activities.

Exhibitions featured this summer include:

  • The Presence of Poe: The Life & Legacy of a Literary Icon (through June 27)
  • The Study of One Thing: The Zen Arts of Jody Hojin Kimmel, Sensei (through July 25)
  • Discovering Our Place: Working, Learning, and Playing Within These Hills
  • Masterpieces of European and American Art: Hartwick College’s Art Treasure Room, a permanent exhibition featuring works ranging from the Italian Renaissance to 20th-century pieces by Rockwell Kent, Paul Manship and Childe Hassam.
  • The Yager is the Oneonta area’s only museum of art and culture. Admission is free and ample parking is available near the museum entrance on the first floor of Yager Hall.

There are no parking restrictions in the Yager Hall lot during the summer months and the galleries are air-conditioned.

To reach the museum, take West Street to Clinton Street, turn left onto Clinton Street and then right onto Cayuga Drive. Follow Cayuga Drive to Yager Hall. Parking is available adjacent to the museum entrance.
